Cookie policy
This site sets no cookies of its own and uses no tracking or advertising cookies — which is why there’s no cookie banner. The only things it keeps in your browser are the settings and choices you make — display settings, reactions, comment details, your stack answers and the game — and only if you use them.

Cookies and browser storage
Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Browsers can also keep data for a site in “local storage”, which works in a similar way. The rules in the EU, the UK and Brazil treat both alike: anything a site stores on your device either has to be strictly necessary for something you asked for, or needs your consent.
What this site stores
| Name | Type | What for | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
a11y |
Local storage | Remembers the display settings you picked in the Accessibility panel (text size, contrast, motion, spacing, fonts, links, focus). Created only when you change a setting; removed when you go back to the defaults. Never sent to the server. | Until you reset the settings or clear your browser data |
reactions |
Local storage | Remembers which reaction you picked under an article, so you vote once and see your choice when you come back. Created only when you react. Never sent to the server as an identifier. | Until you clear your browser data |
commenter |
Local storage | Remembers the name, email (if you gave one) and face from your last comment, so your next one goes out without asking again; “Edit details” changes them. Created only when you send a comment. It stays in this browser and is only sent along with a comment you write. | Until you clear your browser data |
laures:stack |
Local storage | Your answers to the three stack questions on the Web Development page, so a message you send next carries them and you aren’t asked again. Created only once all three are answered; “Start again” removes it. Sent only with a message you send, added where you can see it. | 30 days, or until you clear it |
fetch-… |
Local storage | The Fetch game’s settings and progress: the level, the bricks, your best streak, whether you’ve seen the tips, sound on or off, and the name and picture you chose for the player (a photo you add is made smaller and kept only here). Created only when you play. Never sent to the server. | Until you clear your browser data |
All of them are strictly necessary for features you use on purpose, so they don’t need a consent banner. They hold only your own settings, choices and what you typed or picked yourself.
Before the site opens to the public, people reviewing it are given a laures_preview cookie that lets them see it; visitors never get one, and it goes when the site launches.
What this site doesn’t use
- No analytics cookies. Visit statistics come from Umami, which counts visits without cookies or any other storage on your device.
- No advertising or social media cookies, and no embedded videos, maps or feeds that would set them.
- No third-party fonts or scripts that track you: fonts and images are served from this site.
Other sites and services
If the site is served through Cloudflare, it may set a strictly necessary cookie to tell people from automated attacks; it isn’t used to track you.
Booking a call (Cal.com), messaging on WhatsApp or sharing a page takes you to that service, which uses its own cookies under its own policy.
Your control
You can reset the display settings from the Accessibility panel at any time, which removes the stored entry, and “Start again” under the stack questions removes your answers. You can also clear site data from your browser’s settings, or block storage altogether — the site keeps working, it just won’t remember your settings and choices between visits.
