About
Twelve years of learning by building.
I’m Guilherme Laureano — Laures, professionally — a self-taught UX/UI designer and front-end developer based in Brazil. I design interfaces and build them myself, staying true to the design as plans change.
Working remotely since 2014: with agencies and fellow freelancers, and directly with clients of my own, in Europe and beyond.
How I work
Designing and building, as one job.
Most people in this field pick a side. I never did, and over time that became the point of the work. I bring senior-level Figma practice — atomic design, design systems, accessibility, prototyping — straight into the build, and when plans change late, I adapt the design instead of letting it drift.
When I draw a design system, I’m already thinking about how it holds up as real, reusable code. When I write the front end, I know why each decision was made, because I made it.
-
Design + code
One person from the first frame to the final commit, and one point of contact for you.
-
Colour by rationale
I’m colour blind, so colour is set by contrast ratios and standards, never by eye. It made the work more rigorous, not less.
-
Clear answers
I’m upfront about fit, timing and cost, and I let you know as soon as anything changes.
The path so far
From solo projects to international teams.
Self-taught first, then in-house at a studio and at a growing e-commerce business — and, since around 2018, freelance for agencies, fellow freelancers and direct clients, building B2C and B2B stores on WooCommerce, Shopify and VTEX.
-
2014
Self-taught, from day one
Started designing and building websites on my own, learning by shipping real projects for real clients.
-
2015 — 2017 In-house
Ação Direta Web Studio
First studio work: institutional sites and landing pages, and the habit of taking a design all the way to the browser.
-
2017 — 2020 Freelance partner
Neuro Digital
Design and front end for the agency’s clients — web apps, e-commerce and a sharper eye for UX and conversion.
-
2020 — 2021 Freelance partner
Agência Luma
Sites and stores in partnership with the agency, with performance and accessibility treated as part of the build.
-
2021 — 2022 In-house
Grupo Leonora
Tech lead, front-end developer and UX/UI designer. Led a new B2B storefront on VTEX from design to launch.
-
2023 — today Freelance partner
Juvo Digital, then Loco Digital
Remote, with an Irish group of digital companies. When most of the group was sold, Loco Digital stayed out of the sale, and I moved with it: sites, web apps and booking systems for international clients.
An agency or a fellow freelancer?
I design and build under your brand, inside your process, with your clients.
The stack
How I choose the tools.
Each project gets the tools that fit it. These are the ones I use most, and why.
-
Design and code in one system.
Tokens and components start in Figma and are mirrored in SCSS, so both stay in sync.
Tools: FigmaDesign systemsSCSS (BEM, SMACSS)
-
Platforms chosen by who runs them.
WordPress when the client’s team edits content often, Shopify for retail, VTEX for larger B2B stores, Kirby for small editorial sites.

-
Plain code first.
I start with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and add a framework or animation library when the project needs one.

-
Back end, up to a point.
I handle plugins, integrations and store setup. For heavier back-end work, I bring in a back-end developer.
Tools: PHPPluginsIntegrations
-
AI as an assistant.
I use Claude Code for code and review everything it writes. Image AIs help me explore ideas early on.

Your team’s tools.
I work in whichever tools the team already uses.

Off the clock
The person behind the work.
I work from Laguna, a coastal town in the south of Brazil, alongside my two dogs, Sky and Ritalino. Outside work: the gym, metal, Arsenal and Vasco matches, long games of Skyrim, co-op evenings with friends, and writing fiction, which turns out to exercise the same muscle as a good design system: deciding what to leave out.
